Hifdh

Hifdh Course

Goodwood Islamic Academy Hifdh Program is committed to produce competent huffaz and protectors of the Noble Qur’an who are able to fulfil the rights of the Quran. Our program not only concentrates on memorising the Qur’an with correct tajweed, but also a strong emphasis is placed on maintaining what has already been memorised. Students are encouraged to work rigorously in order to preserve the previous lessons. The centre strives to nurture students’ overall moral and ethical values, preparing them to become model citizens and positive contributors to society.

Our goal is to instil in each student the love of Allah, Our Beloved Prophet ﷺ and the deen of Islam, and also to develop a positive Muslim identity as well as a commitment to religion, family, and community.

It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status. Recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite.”

[at-Tirmidhi]

Narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (RA) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The likeness of the one who reads Qur’an and memorises it is that he is with the righteous honourable scribes. The likeness of the one who reads it and tries hard to memorise it even though it is difficult for him, he will have two rewards.”

[al-Bukhari]

Course Duration

The four year course is based on 221 days of study a year with 1 page of sabaq daily; this will ensure that the student completes one juz every six weeks. After the completion of the Juz, an assessment is held before progressing on to the next Juz. The target on this course will be to complete 7.5 - 8 juz annually. In addition to the hifdh the students will also have lessons on Tajweed and Islamic studies.

Lesson Structure

The lessons are three hours daily during the weekdays- the last hour on a Friday is reserved for Fiqh/Islamic studies. Lessons are in the evening between 4:45pm - 7:45pm.

Sabaq (Current Lesson): At the beginning of the day, all students are required to recite their previous day's lesson to the teacher. No mistakes are permitted in the entire lesson.

Nazirah (Recitation): Before memorising a new portion, students must first read it under the supervision of the teacher to ensure proper recitation and tajweed. This is to ensure that students memorise the new portion correctly.

Sabaq Para (Current Juz): In addition to reciting their current lesson, students must also recite at least a quarter juz (6-7 pages) of their most current juz in its entirety to the teacher.

Dhor (Revision): This portion of the lesson focuses on a previously memorised juz of the Qur'an. Students are required to recite either a portion or an entire juz (depending on how far the student has progressed) with a limited number of mistakes.

The minimum commitment at home would be 1 hour recitation daily, this is to learn their sabaq and revise their sabaq para which will need to be listened to and signed off by a parent or guardian.

Admission Assessment

As part of the admission process there is a six week assessment at a cost of £90 (£3.00 a day) which is non-refundable.  Upon completion of the assessment, if the student has performed satisfactorily and all parties are content, the student will be enrolled.

Students should ideally begin their hifdh before commencing year 6.  This will ensure they have completed their hifdh before their GCSE’s
